4th Grade Math Review: Day 2

You made it through day one of our 4th grade math review! Yesterday's post talked about expanded notation and comparing and ordering numbers. Today we continue looking at the first reporting category (section) of the 4th grade curriculum, numerical representations and relationships, by examining how to round the same number to different places and relating fractions to decimals.

Rounding Numbers to Different Place Values

Students learned how to round numbers in the 3rd grade. This year, they need to be able to take the same number and round it to different places. To learn more, check out the video below.

Now that you've refreshed your memory as to that skill, go ahead and solve this problem from a released STAAR test. This was a free-response item, so there were no multiple choice answers to select from.

Relating Decimals to Fractions

Students have already been exposed to the idea of decimals through money. Now, they take their understanding of fractions and extend it to decimals without relying on money. If the relationship between fractions and decimals doesn't ring a bell, watch the video below.

Now that you know the how fractions and decimals relate, try these problems from a released STAAR test.

Correct Answers

Here's a recording of the answers and explanations. Make sure you've worked out the problems yourself before watching the video.
