4th Grade Math Review: Day 6

In yesterday's post we looked at multiplication, both two-digit and by 10 or 100. Today we are still within Reporting Category 2, Computations and Algebraic Relationships, learning how to about multiplication and division multi-step problems and long division.

Long Division

The moment 4th graders have been waiting for - the long division algorithm. Though briefly introduced to it in 3rd grade, this is the year that students commit the steps to divide numbers to memory. Here's a short video to help you remember as well.

Hopefully that cleared up any confusion. Now you can try the following problem. It was a free response item so there are no answer choices to select from.

Two-Step Multiplication and Division Problems

In the third grade, students are asked to not only add addition and subtraction problems but also to represent them with equations and pictorial models, including strip diagrams. Watch the video below for more information.

With that information fresh in your mind, try this problem from a released STAAR test.

Interpreting Remainders

In addition to learning long division, students must also understand how to understand remainders. What do those pesky left overs really mean? Here's a short video explaining this math standard.

Now that you've watched the video above, you're ready to tackle the following problem.

Correct Answers Here's the video with the answers and explanations. Make sure you've worked them out yourself before watching!
