5th Grade Math Review: Day 8

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

In yesterday's post we reviewed how to add and subtract fractions, this time with unlike denominators, and how to represent problems with a letter as the unknown. If you weren't able to catch the live stream with the answers, you can watch it here. Today marks the 2/3 point of the review and, in part, discusses the last standard in Reporting Category 2 - Computations and Algebraic Relationships.

Personal Financial Literacy - Taxes

This short topic, Personal Financial Literacy, is a part of Reporting Category 4 - Data Analysis and Personal Financial Literacy. There are two other videos about Personal Financial Literacy on my 5th grade playlist not covered in this blog post.

After learning about taxes, try to solve this problem from a 5th grade released STAAR test.

Additive and Multiplicative Patterns

Students have looked at patterns from tables for several years now. In 5th grade, that use more precise terms to describe the patterns, such as additive or multiplicative. Take a look at this sample video below.

With this information about additive patterns, try your hand at this sample problem below.

The other type of pattern that students will need to know are multiplicative patterns. You can learn more about those in this video.

That type of pattern is what is being asked for in this sample problem below.

Correct Answers Tonight (4/2/20) at 8:00 pm (CDT), I'll live stream from my YouTube channel to go over the answers to these three practice problems. Make sure you've already worked them out ahead of time. I can answer questions you might have in the stream chat and I'll put the recording on my channel and in this post for anyone that couldn't watch it live. If you haven't done so already, you can subscribe to the channel to get notifications for live streams and new videos that I post.

Here's the live stream with the answers and explanations.
